History Mission

Throughout our history, SFPCU's Core Purpose has remained the same:
Providing financial solutions to take care of our own.

We return all income, after operating expenses and reserves, to members in the form of interest on savings and other valuable benefits.

SFPCU membership grants you access to all privileges, including low-cost loans and higher-than-average dividends on your deposits. And once you join SFPCU, you are a member for as long as you wish, even if you move, change jobs or retire.

Back in 1953, a small group of San Francisco policemen created SFPCU based on their mutual financial needs and unpaid bills. They wished to avoid the high cost of borrowing money from loan companies and banks, so they formed a committee and opened the credit union in the old out building behind Park Station. A partition was built and SFPCU went into business in the old horse stables.

In June 2003, we expanded our membership to include other California fire and emergency medical technician agencies based on our common bonds. Today, SFPCU has more than 32,000 members and more than $700 million in assets.
